More IT Fun
IT builds a new help desk system for the organization where this pilot fish works, and it's a big improvement.
"Now users could enter help desk tickets from anywhere and have the ticket routed to the right person," says fish.
"Our CIO made the decision that this help desk could be used for anything, PC-related or not. For example, it could be used for building maintenance requests.
"About three days into the new help desk, a ticket is entered requesting building service -- there was a window leaking.
"My CIO was reading all of the calls. To this one he dutifully responded: 'Please enter your version of Windows when opening a ticket.'"

oma is the format used by MD players, and with the "XP Codec Pack" that is available online, BSPlayer Pro WILL play them in native format.

MD, another proprietary Sony technology....
Imagine what Sony could do if they worked with compatible tech.

Don't be knockin' my MD man, it blows any MP3 player out of the water! I've been through a 1/2 dozen mp3 players over the past 5 years, but still have not managed to kill my MD player. Don't knock it 'till you try it.

I was not knocking the technology, just Sony's licensing of it. I remember hearing about an enhanced MD that could hold 6GB (this was back in '9 and where is it? I also heard that Sony might come out with a computer drive using either format. Think about having a 6GB "floppy" boot disk in the MD form factor. Sony is so tight fisted with their tech that it dies a slow death. Remember Betamax was better than VHS but nobody wanted to pay the high licensing fees for the better tech and so we were stuck with vhs until DVD came out. I'm glad you've gotten great use from your MD and I hope it lasts another 5 years (or longer) I prefer open standards and multiple vendors so I don't get locked into one company.

I'm with the Bear on this one. I'm not a fan of Sony but I like MD. Better than CDs. They are popular in Europe and Asia but due to Sony's wonderful marketing they never caught on here. I have never liked how CDs and DVDs are not protected physically. You have to worry about scratching them up. I think it's stupid to go to a newer better format if you have to worry about scratching them up. Don't have to worry about that with MDs. The old formats hold the same as CDs, the newer ones hold GBs. And they are made from the ground up to be truly re-recordable. You can re-record on them up to a million times without a loss of quality.
I'll get off of my soapbox now. I feel better.

I actually didn't knock the MD, just Sony's marketing practices. Instead of helping develop new standards they develop competing standards that confuse the marketplace until a standard can be reached or technology developed to handle both/all tech.

Yeah I know what you mean. Instead of going in with Phillips and whoever developing HD-DVD they create Blu-Ray instead.

I'm with LD on the proprietary format crap. Between Sony and Apple, we're lucky to ever get a standard.
And lets not forget Sony was the first to include spyware on their music CD's at no extra charge.

Not to mention mention they build in copy protection into the hardware of some of their products like VCRs and so forth.
