George Thorogood and the Destroyers
By Buhduh
The huge tent with the guitars painted on it became the home of the Mean Old Dog himself last Saturday night. Located just outside the main entrance to the 2005 CES show in Las Vegas it rocked and boogied right after the show closed, lubricated with a free flowing bar.
Opening act
Jaggedy Ann covered
Ac/Dc to
Zeppelin and proved that you don’t need Y Chromosomes to rock. They competently warmed up the crowd for the headliner to come.
Amid an array of guitars that you could play (and possibly win!), with 30-foot high airbrushed guitar paintings plus Gibson beanbag chairs and stools the enthusiastic crowd saw a boogie master put on a great show.
All the standards were there and nobody seemed to care that
George Thorogood and the Destroyers haven’t been at the top of the charts lately. They were at the top of their game that night and that was all that mattered. Their renditions of
Bad To The Bone,
Move It On Over, and
Who Do You Love had the crowd in great spirits.
Spirits were flowing as well in the corner of the room as the bartender poured Tito’s Triple Distilled Vodka through an ice sculpture of a Gibson guitar then mixed it with Red Bull. You could also get good beer, and we chose the boilermaker approach: vodka straight up, followed by the beer.
George and crew rocked the hall for well over an hour and a half, and for a free show there was certainly no reason to complain. Ending early as the show began just after sundown, it left lots of time for the warmed up crowd to still get their fix of the aspects of Vegas night life that they had missed for the 3 preceding evenings of this years CES show.
